Petra Bartosiewicz is a freelance writer who has written for numerous publications, including Harper’s magazine, the Nation, New Republic, Mother Jones, the New York Times, and Hustler, and has worked in radio for the weekly program, This American Life. She is the recipient of an Alicia Patterson Fellowship, an Open Society Foundation Criminal Justice Fellowship, and a Knight Wallace Fellowship in Journalism. She has been a writer in residence at MacDowell Colony and Yaddo. She got her start in journalism at the New York Observer and later attended the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She is currently working on a book on the domestic front of the war on terrorism.
